“I can’t access X site on Y device through Teleport!”

This is probably one of the most common questions I’ve seen regarding Teleport access, which is understandable. There are many devices and sites popping up everywhere, and not everything gets immediately supported – if at all – by Teleport.

Here’s a quick checklist I’ve put together to see whether a site and/or device is currently supported by Teleport:

1) Is the platform or device you’re using supported by Teleport?

I created a list of all supported devices and websites (that I know of) here.

Also, take note that different web browsers can perform differently as well.

2) Are you using a VPN or proxy service?

If you’re on a supported device and trying to connect to a website Teleport supports, are you using any VPN or DNS proxy based services? If you are, please turn them off to use Teleport as they are likely to interfere with how Teleport operates.

3) If you’re using a web browser, have you installed Silverlight on it?

Silverlight is an application framework that allows rich media internet applications, such as video streaming apps, to run in web browsers. Without it, your streaming service may not well.

To check if you have installed the latest version of Silverlight, visit www.silverlightversion.com — if the version stated on the page is 0.0.00000.0, Silverlight has not been installed and you should try installing it.

To install Silverlight, head on to the Microsoft Silverlight download page.

4) Is your router or device connected to the Teleport DNS servers?

Your router and devices must be connected to the Teleport DNS servers, namely 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. You may choose a secondary DNS server like Google’s 8.8.8.8 as a backup option but your primary DNS server must point to one of Teleport’s.

If you have not changed the DNS settings on your computers or devices, it should automatically take the DNS settings of your router. Also, specific device settings override general settings, i.e. specific different DNS setting on your devices can overrule the general DNS setting of your router, so unless you’re able to change those settings, that device may be “hardwired” to be unable to use Teleport.

Some other things you can do:

While I can’t guarantee that these steps will definitely get your Teleport working, they should be sufficient for most problems. Otherwise, you can contact MyRepublic directly to ask them for help.
